Eight weeks: Wednesdays, Jan 21 - March 11th

Sign up now!

Participants will get active and creative after school, exploring the elements of music theatre and dreaming up their own mini-musical to perform for parents.

The program is designed to:
  • introduce the basics of music theatre - singing, dancing and acting, through fun games and activities
  • encourage kids to explore and share their own creative ideas in a nurturing environment (non-sense welcome!)
  • inspire co-operation and collaboration, as kids work together to produce their own mini-musical
  • provide a performance opportunity where kids can test out the stage!
Our mini-musical for parents will take on the last day of class - Wednesday, March 11th, so save the date!

Student-Instructor Ratio: 16 kids max.
Cost: $120/per student (+HST) for eight classes.
Where: In the music room at Chester

Experienced Instructors who love to teach:

Ann-Marie Williams

Picture
The director of the Movement Lab, Ann-Marie's first passion is teaching dance, but she also loves the unique way music theatre programs create playgrounds for the imagination.  And, she has lots of experience in this sort of make-believe-making.  After six years as the coordinator for the City of Toronto's Arts Adventure summer camp, she was contracted by the Toronto District School Board to write a multidisciplinary arts camp curriculum for them.  She has guest taught in many private and public schools across the city, and is very excited to get to know the Chester community! She is happiest when her teaching ignites a student’s curiosity for learning and brings out their individual strengths and creative perspectives.

Ann-Marie holds an MA in Dance (focused on teaching academics through movement), a BFA in Theatre-Dance, and is a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance.  She is also the author of Learn to Speak Dance, published by OWL Kids.

Kathy Lewis

Picture
Kathy Lewis is a singer/dancer/actor based in Toronto, who knows how to blend the best of the professional world with the unique, creative ideas only kids can come up with! When not teaching creative movement with the Movement Lab, she performs on Toronto's stages.  Recent credits include Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray (Bird Entertainment), Kate in the Pirates of Penzance (Toronto Operetta Theatre), Mrs. Splinters in the Tender Land (Summer Opera Lyric Theatre), Leonard in Les Huguenots (Opera in Concert), and chorus for the Black Creek Music Festival's Broadway Stars Concert and Placido Domingo Concert.

Kathy is a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, and has trained in the Ryerson and York University Dance Programs. Kathy holds a BFA in Dance. She is a thoughtful, caring teacher with a strong creative eye, and we're thrilled to have her on the Movement Lab staff.
